Orthodontics for Adults
Everyone wants a beautiful smile! Don’t let age stop you from having the straight teeth you’ve always dreamed of. Teeth can be straightened at any age. The biological process involved in tooth movement is the same for both children and adults alike. An increasing number of adults are seeking an improved smile as part of an emphasis on a more youthful appearance and overall health. One in every four of our patients is over the age of 21. With many technological advances in treatment and equipment, many options are available to you. Dr. H will discuss the treatment options available and what is the best approach for your specific needs and new aesthetic options make it easier and more practical for more adults to benefit from orthodontic treatment.
Typical adult problems include crooked teeth and bad bites. Crooked teeth or a bad bite can contribute to tooth decay, abnormal wear of the teeth, gum and bone loss, tooth loss, headaches and TMJ (jaw) pain. Malocclusion is a term used by orthodontists to refer to a bad bite when the jaw can’t fit together properly due to tooth or jaw misalignment; Dr. Holman’s goal is to achieve the correct functional occlusion (good bite) for each patient. A thorough orthodontic treatment plan can not only improve the health of your teeth and gums, but can also dramatically improve your personal appearance and self-esteem.
While orthodontics can have great cosmetic benefits, many adults do not realize that well-aligned teeth and properly fitting teeth (the bite or occlusion) may also enhance their ability to keep their teeth for a lifetime. Often, it is our adult patients who are more appreciative of the many benefits or orthodontic treatment, after having lived with unfavorable smiles and bites for many years.
Dr. Holman understands that adult treatment requires special consideration and experience. To address adult needs, we offer:
- Extensive knowledge of Invisalign treatment
- Aesthetic clear and metal braces
- Retainer treatment for minor tooth movement or relapse
- Braces on upper or lower arch only for limited treatment goals
